2024 COURSE UPDATES

The 50k course has changed for 2024 due to an active thinning project being performed by the US Forest Service. The 25k course is essentially the same as last year.

Topo maps/elevation profile and descriptions are below:

Elevation Profile:

The 50k starts at Oak Flats Picnic Area, runs to the east to the Ponderosa Open Space Loop. Run the Open Space Loop counterclockwise. Upon completion of the Loop, there is an Aid Station at the intersection with Mahogany trail (same as 2023, approximately mile 5.4). The course runs north on Mahogany to Juan Tomas Road. There is another aid station at Mahogany/Juan Tomas Road (same as 2023, approximately mile 7.8). The course continues to the north on Bear Scat, eventually heading south on Lone Pine to the aid station at Lone Pine/Meadow Ridge/FR 12 (mile 12.4). From there, runners head west on Cedro Singletrack to Cedro Campground Aid Station (mile 14.8/drop bags/crews). Runners then summit Cedro Peak via the Forest Road and come back down via the trail on the back side of the Peak.

NEW: Runners will then head back the way they came down the Forest Road and back to Cedro Campground Aid Station before heading back west on Cedro Singletrack to Lone Pine Aid Station. THIS IS AN OUT AND BACK.

At the Lone Pine Aid Station, runners will head south on Meadow Ridge to Juan Tomas Road and to Another Juan/Poker Chip Aid Station (approx. mile 22)(2:00pm cutoff). From there, runners will head south to Pine Flat Trailhead (approx. mile 26)(3:30pm cutoff). Runners exit Pine Flat campground to the south and get back on the trail near the southernmost part of the campground area, near the bathrooms and trailer parking. Follow Deadman to the south and wind back on the trails to Oak Flats Campground. Watch the trail markers/flagging in this area, there are a lot of intersections.

The 25k course is nearly the same as last years’ course. From Oak Flats parking lot, head east to the Open Space Ponderosa Loop. Run the Loop counterclockwise. The first aid station is at mile 5.4 at the end of the Loop. From there, runners head north on Mahogany on the same trail as the 50k until right before Juan Tomas Road, where the 25k course splits to the left and heads west on Another Juan Trail. There is an aid station at Another Juan and Poker Chip (mile 8.1)(2pm cutoff). The course then merges with the 50k course to Pine Flats Trail head (mile 11.4)(3:30 cutoff) and continues on the same trail with the 50k all the way back to Oak Flats (start/finish). The course is well marked, but look carefully for pink trail markers, as there are a lot of intersections. Distance is approximately 16.2 miles.
